Complete Your Smile

An older couple laughs together after receiving dental crowns and bridges

One of the most recognizable tools used in restorative dentistry is the dental crown. Dental crowns have been used for centuries and have evolved dramatically from their humble beginnings. Traditionally made of metal, modern dental crowns are now created from strong, durable, tooth-colored ceramic. These durable shells of porcelain completely cover a tooth or dental implant to strengthen the mouth's structure, provide a surface for chewing, and create the appearance of a complete smile. The dental crowns and bridges provided by Ridgewood Dental Associates have been improving the structure, function, and appearance of smiles for many years. What's the Difference Between Crowns and Bridges?

A dental crown is designed to restore a single tooth. The ceramic shell is custom-built so that the shape, size, and color of the restorations matches the rest of your natural smile. A dental bridge is made up of two crowns connected to either side of an artificial tooth. The crowns are applied to the two (sometimes healthy) teeth surrounding a gap left by a missing tooth. Built for three or more teeth, dental bridges can correct more severe damage, decay, or tooth loss than a dental crown. Implant-supported bridges are self-sustaining, meaning the adjacent teeth will remain untouched.

Are You a Candidate?

Each patient we see will be thoroughly examined to determine which of our many treatments is right for him or her. An in-depth consultation gives you a chance to ask questions, express concerns, and discuss which procedures you're most comfortable or familiar with. Our consultation process is highly focused on the individual needs of our patients, and dental crowns and bridges are used when we know a patient will experience great benefit from them.

The Ridgewood Dental Associates Experience

Most dental practices these days provide all-ceramic dental crowns and bridges, but Ridgewood Dental Associates goes above and beyond to provide restorations that go unmatched in quality, aesthetics, and durability. Using the best ceramic material and working with elite-level lab technicians, we raise the bar for restorative dentists across the tri-state area. Our in-office laboratory is always available to make repairs and changes for our valuable patients. From start to finish, we are dedicated to the perfection of your smile and oral health, and will work tirelessly to ensure your personal satisfaction.

What Should You Expect?

As with any of our cosmetic or restorative treatments, sedation options are always available to ensure your comfort. On the day you receive a dental crown or bridge, we will first administer anesthetic and/or sedation to help ensure your comfort. The teeth receiving a dental crown will first be prepared to make room for the restoration. Typically, this process is completed during a subsequent visit, so that a restoration can be designed and fabricated. A small amount of your tooth's enamel (or any decayed or damaged tooth material) will be removed so that an impression can be made.

Once your dental prosthetic is complete, you will return to our office to have it placed. After being carefully cleaned and gently buffed, bonding material will be applied and the crown set in place. A special light will be used to harden the bond more quickly, at which point the crown or bridge will be secured. The prosthetic will function and look just as your natural-tooth once did, restoring the appearance and health of your smile.
