Vizilite Plus Oral Cancer Screenings.
One person dies every hour from Oral Cancer in the United States. The mortality rates continue to increase due to late detection. Although tobacco use is a major predisposing risk factor, 27% of oral cancer victims have NO lifestyle risk factors.
According to the American Cancer Society, more women will be diagnosed in the US with oral cancer this year (12,000) than will be diagnosed with cervical cancer (10,000). Further, 16 out of 18 of these oral cancer cases will be caused by human papilloma virus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease.
Oral cancer risk by patient profile is listed below:
Increased Risk: age 18-39
-sexually active patients due to HPV
High Risk: age 40 and older; tobacco users younger than 40
Highest Risk: age 40 and older with lifestyle risk factors, tobacco use, or moderate alcohol use and patients with a history of oral cancer.
We will be performing the Vizilite Plus exam annually for a fee of $65.00
Dental insurance may not cover this advanced screening. This office will provide you with a medical insurance form for you to use to file with your medical insurance.
