Being pregnant brings with it much excitement and joy. It is also a time to take especially good care of yourself. When you are pregnant it is also a time to be sure to take good care of your teeth. Great at home dental care for pregnant women can be especially important since pregnancy can put a strain on your dental health. If you are pregnant and need the care of an experienced dentist, who has worked with and advised many pregnant women, see our Ridgewood NJ dentist.

At our practice, Ridgewood Dental Associates, we have three expert and highly-trained dentists on staff. They are: Dr. Jin Ha Joung, Dr. Mark Samani – a prosthodontist, and Dr. Min-Hee Cho. Our practice has been providing excellent dental care for more than 40 years. It is safe to say that we set the standard for exceptional dental care, particularly in the field of prosthodontics. We also see many women who are pregnant and in need of seeing a top-notch Ridgewood NJ dentist. It is very important that a patient tells us if she is indeed pregnant so that we can take special precautionary measures. It is best if treatment can be done in the second trimester, and not in the first trimester or the second half of the third trimester. But routine dental care is fine to provide in the second trimester. However, we do recommend that elective dental procedures are postponed until after you have delivered your baby.

Even with the new, very low level dental x-ray technology, our Ridgewood NJ dentist will recommend that you avoid dental x-rays during pregnancy. In an extreme dental emergency we will take extra precautions to safeguard you and your baby. Even though you are pregnant though, it is still important to come to your dental checkup appointments. The hormonal changes you experience during pregnancy may put you at an increased risk for developing periodontal disease. Your gums may become tender and bleed easily – in fact this is a common condition during pregnancy. If your gums become tender or swollen during pregnancy be sure to come in and visit with us. It is very important that you follow great oral hygiene during pregnancy to help reduce any chances of gingivitis. And of course if you have any dental questions or concerns during your pregnancy we hope that you will come in and see us for prompt advice and treatment if necessary.
